Indiana Earthquake, Magnitude 3.8, Scares Residents
An Indiana earthquake today scared residents early in the morning. According to the U.S. geological Survey, this was a magnitude 3.8 earthquake (it was lowered from an initial 4.2 reading) and took place exactly at 7:55 am EST, with its center five miles south of Greentown in Howard County.
After the earthquake, authorities received a flood of calls from concerned citizens. Many people thought that this was a bomb and not a quake and many people claim they heard an explosion-like sound. The movement was felt in Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky and Wisconsin. Luckily no damage or injuries have been reported.
This earthquake is a very rare event in the area as there are no known fault lines in there. Seismically speaking this is a very quiet area, and one of the reasons why many residents mistook the quake with an explosion.

2. 'BLACK NATIVITY'

The 2011 Pro Bowl Roster Selections Have Been Announced
Some of the notables for the 2011 Pro Bowl Rosters are:
The Indianapolis Colts have both of their defensive ends, Dwight Freeney & Robert Mathis starting for the AFC. The Atlanta Falcons had the most Pro Bowl selections with 7 players heading to Hawaii for the NFC team. The New England Patriots have 6 players joining the AFC squad. Four other teams had 5 selections each. The Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will not be sending any players to the Pro Bowl, unless alternates are chosen.
While most of the selections for the Pro Bowl seems to be pretty justified, there were several players that don’t deserve to make it based on this year’s performances. Shaun O’Hara of the NY Giants was selected as a reserve, even though he has only played in 4 games this season.
The teams that make it to the Super Bowl will not be having their players participate in the Pro Bowl, since there is a risk of injury involved. This means that up to 13 of the selected players may not actually participate, and alternates will take their place on the Roster.

Roddy White ends swirling week of controversy
Falcons wide receiver Roddy White drew the ire of the city of New Orleans with some messages on twitter.com account last week.
Even though he apologized for those messages ripping the team and the city, he was clearly on the Saints' minds during the game and got into a couple of shouting matches with New Orleans defenders.
He was on the coaches' mind's too. White entered the game leading the league with 33 catches for 465 yards on third downs.
In the first half, the Falcons had six third-down calls and never threw once toward White. White did score on a 7-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter to make it 10-7.
On third down throughout the first half, the Falcons bent over backwards to go against their tendencies. They threw passes to Harry Douglas, Michael Jenkins, Brian Finneran, Jason Snelling and Ovie Mughelli. Todd McClure had a botched shotgun snap on the other third down, leading to a critical turnover.
The Falcons converted only 1 of 6 those third downs. Their only conversion came on a 19-yard pass to Snelling on their 8-play, 78-yard touchdown drive that took 3 minutes, 50 seconds off the clock.
Turner stopped early
The Saints gave up 208 yards rushing last week to Baltimore. The Falcons ran for 202 yards in the previous meeting this season. Spot a trend?
The Saints started the game dialed into the Falcons' run game. They held running back Michael Turner to 47 yards on 16 carries through three quarters and the Falcons struggled to consistently move the football.
They stopped Turner twice on the goal line in the third quarter and Saints defensive end Jeff Charleston caused a fumble that was recovered by linebacker Marvin Mitchell just when the Falcons were poised to take the lead.
Davis scores again
Defensive end Chauncey Davis scored the second touchdown of his career on an interception in the fourth quarter to put the Falcons up 14-10.
With Saints quarterback Drew Brees under pressure from defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux, Brees tried to flip the ball out to a Saints receiver.
Davis stepped in front of the pass like he was taking an option pitch and scored on a 26-yard return.
Davis, a six-year veteran from Florida State, previously scored on a 41-yard interception return against Washington on Dec. 3, 2006.
Penalties hurt Falcons
The Falcons entered the game as the least penalized team in the league. They then went against form.
There was a double pass interference call on White and New Orleans cornerback Jabari Greer that stalled a first quarter drive. Coach Mike Smith was irate over the call.
Jenkins was later called for an obvious pass interference in the second quarter that stalled a drive.
Inactives
The inactive players for the Falcons were cornerback Dominique Franks, running back Antone Smith, linebacker Spencer Adkins, tackle Garrett Reynolds, guard Mike Johnson, defensive end Lawrence Sidbury and defensive tackle Trey Lewis. John Parker Wilson was declared the third quarterback.
For the Saints, starting linebacker Danny Clark and running back Chris Ivory were the key inactives.
Clark had been listed as probable with a hamstring injury and was a full participant in practice last week. He was replaced in the starting lineup by Jo-Lonn Dunbar.

American Masters - "Genius Within: The Inner Life Of Glenn Gould"

"Genius Within: The Inner Life Of Glenn Gould" debuts tonight at 9 p.m. in most markets as part of PBS' American Masters series. Check local listings.
Because I know jack-all about classical music, I’m ashamed to admit that I’d never heard of Glenn Gould prior to the release of the 1993 arthouse hit Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould. And frankly, because François Girard and Don McKellar’s take on the life and art of the eccentric Canadian pianist is so impressionistic, I can’t say the movie gave me more than the roughest outline of who Gould was and why he was so significant. So if nothing else, I appreciated Michèle Hozer and Peter Raymont’s documentary Genius Within: The Inner Life Of Glenn Gould because it filled in the gaps between Thirty Two Short Films. This film tells Gould’s story from life to death: How he developed an interest and aptitude for music as a pre-schooler; how he became an international sensation in the ‘50s, becoming a well-known name even outside the fine arts community; how he developed into a popular but unreliable concert attraction before giving up live performance in 1964; and how he dedicated the final decades of his life (before an untimely death in 1982 at age 50) to exploring the potential of the recording studio.
Genius Within also delves into Gould’s personal life in ways that Thirty Two Short Films didn’t, though it’s here where Hozer and Raymont stumble a bit. Gould was an odd bird, to be sure: a flake and a hypochondriac who held unconventional views on art and relationships. But the movie takes great pains to note that Gould was also quite personable and kind, and although he had a long-term love affair with a colleague’s wife—even allowing her and her children to move in with him—the arrangement was otherwise civil and ordinary. Roughly a fifth of Genius Within is dedicated to this romance, presumably because Cornelia Foss and her now-grown children consented to be interviewed and may be the only living people who really knew Gould intimately enough to comment on what he was like on a daily basis. Specifically, I wished Hozer and Raymont had spent more time on Gould’s radio documentaries, which explored life in Canada (in a musical way) and music (in a Canadian way). Genius Within touches on programs like “The Idea Of North” and Gould’s study of the music of Petula Clark, but doesn’t focus on the mechanics or accomplishment as much as it focuses on how strange it was for Gould to head in that direction with his career. And because I’m still not in the least bit adept when it comes to classical music, I also would’ve liked for Genius Within to deal more with what made Gould such a standout, beyond his quirks.
Which isn’t to say that the film is devoid of insight. Hozer and Raymont trot out plenty of scholarly folk who call Gould’s spirited 1955 recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations “a revelation,” matched only by his more contemplative, experimental 1981 version. And many of them make an effort to explain how Gould shook up the classical music establishment by breaking away from a tradition of rote interpretations performed with technical perfection. But the case for Gould is made better by Gould himself, in the generous amount of archival footage in Genius Within. Watching Gould in action—all crouched over his piano, humming to himself, swaying to the music, each hand moving almost as its own entity, tapping on the keys as though Gould were typing out a letter—it’s easy to to see why he captivated audiences.
It’s even easier after hearing Gould talk about music, with his affable, gentlemanly air and keen sense of what’s proper. Gould would play pieces at different tempos, or with different emphasis, in order to get people to hear familiar music in new ways. He was respected by his peers—even if they felt he was disrespecting the composers he was reinterpreting—because they knew even more than the critics of the time that Gould was making valuable discoveries. And though Hozer and Raymont don’t expressly make the connection, it’s entirely possible that Gould’s ability to hear music in unexpected ways was tied to his fretting over every twinge and bubble in his body. At one point in Genius Within, one of Gould’s colleagues describes how the pianist once took a composition written expressly for him and retooled it, telling the composer, “You don’t understand your own piece” Maybe Gould really did have secret knowledge, which he could only express through his fingers.

Check local listings.Because I know jack-all about classical music, I’m ashamed to admit that I’d never heard of Glenn Gould prior to the release of the 1993 arthouse hit Thirty Two Short Films About Glenn Gould. And frankly, because François Girard and Don McKellar’s take on the life and art of the eccentric Canadian pianist is so impressionistic, I can’t say the movie gave me more than the roughest outline of who Gould was and why he was so significant. So if nothing else, I appreciated Michèle Hozer and Peter Raymont’s documentary Genius Within: The Inner Life Of Glenn Gould because it filled in the gaps between Thirty Two Short Films. This film tells Gould’s story from life to death: How he developed an interest and aptitude for music as a pre-schooler; how he became an international sensation in the ‘50s, becoming a well-known name even outside the fine arts community; how he developed into a popular but unreliable concert attraction before giving up live performance in 1964; and how he dedicated the final decades of his life (before an untimely death in 1982 at age 50) to exploring the potential of the recording studio.
Genius Within also delves into Gould’s personal life in ways that Thirty Two Short Films didn’t, though it’s here where Hozer and Raymont stumble a bit. Gould was an odd bird, to be sure: a flake and a hypochondriac who held unconventional views on art and relationships. But the movie takes great pains to note that Gould was also quite personable and kind, and although he had a long-term love affair with a colleague’s wife—even allowing her and her children to move in with him—the arrangement was otherwise civil and ordinary. Roughly a fifth of Genius Within is dedicated to this romance, presumably because Cornelia Foss and her now-grown children consented to be interviewed and may be the only living people who really knew Gould intimately enough to comment on what he was like on a daily basis. Blizzard expected to set North Jersey snowfall records for Dec. 27

Snowfall totals in the region are expected to surpass record levels, Bob Ziff, a spokesman for the North Jersey Weather Observers, said Monday morning.The record for Dec. 27 had been 7 inches, which was set in 1984.
In Hawthorne, the record for the date had been 6.3 inches, also in 1984.
“That’s totally blown out,” Ziff said even with the final number yet to be tabulated.
The heaviest snowfall came between 9 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. Eleven inches fell in Ramsey during that time.
The snow largely stopped in North Jersey about 3:45 a.m., Ziff said. However, high winds and unplowed roads and highway ramps made getting to work difficult, even for the veteran weather observer.

Tina Marie Singer Dies at Age 54 :A source close to the family of Teena Marie says the Grammy-nominated R&B singer, song-writer and producer has died. Marie was best known for her work with the late funk legend Rick James. Born Marie Christine Brockert, Teena Marie rose to prominence in the late 70s and 80s.
Marie's biggest hit came in 1984 with her single 'Lovergirl,' which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The cable television network reported on its website that Marie's manager Mike Gardner confirmed the death of Marie, 54.
The radio station cited no source, but said details would be forthcoming.

Crystal Harris is going to be the next Mrs. Hugh Hefner! The 84-year-old popped the question to this blonde bombshell over the holiday weekend, and apparently these two couldn't be happier.
