An Indiana earthquake today scared residents early in the morning. According to the U.S. geological Survey, this was a magnitude 3.8 earthquake (it was lowered from an initial 4.2 reading) and took place exactly at 7:55 am EST, with its center five miles south of Greentown in Howard County.
After the earthquake, authorities received a flood of calls from concerned citizens. Many people thought that this was a bomb and not a quake and many people claim they heard an explosion-like sound. The movement was felt in Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky and Wisconsin. Luckily no damage or injuries have been reported.
This earthquake is a very rare event in the area as there are no known fault lines in there. Seismically speaking this is a very quiet area, and one of the reasons why many residents mistook the quake with an explosion.
