Hugh Hefner engaged to Crystal Harris: Playboy founder to marry Playmate 60 years his junior

Playboy magazine founder Hugh Hefner celebrated the holidays with his newest plaything - announcing his engagement to bombshell girlfriend Crystal Harris.
Hefner, 84, said in a Twitter message from the Playboy Mansion in Hollywood that he'd given a ring to Harris, a 24-year-old former Playmate.


Harris, who posed for Playboy in her birthday suit last December, burst into tears at the news that the octogenarian mogul wants to tie the knot, he tweeted.
"This is the happiest Christmas weekend in memory," Hefner wrote.

Hefner later tweeted a second time to let friends and fans know that ring was not simply a Christmas gift for the sexy gal pal.

"Yes, the ring I gave Crystal is an engagement ring," the mogul wrote. "I didn't mean to make a mystery out of it. A very merry Christmas to all."

It would be the third marriage for the still-dapper Hef. He divorced equally stunning Playmate Kimberly Conrad last year. He was married for 10 years to college sweetheart Mildred Williams in the '50s.

Hefner stars in the of E! reality series "The Girls Next Door," which chronicles his life surrounded by 20-something vixens at the Playboy Mansion.

Harris, who studied psychology at San Diego State University, moved into the Playboy Mansion in January 2009 and quickly caught Hefner's eye.

She starred in his reality show along with Hefner's teenage twin girlfriends at the time, Karissa and Kristina Shannon. In October, Harris made a YouTube video in which she tried on various sexy Halloween outfits for Hefner's enjoyment.

An animal rights supporter, Harris described herself to Us magazine as "a good girl, for the most part."

From party girl to Oscar winner, a journey to the stripped-down Somewhere

Sofia Coppola had her 21st birthday party at the Chateau Marmont — a fact she had forgotten until Phil Pavel, the hotel manager, reminded her while she was there shooting her new film, Somewhere. It's the first feature to be granted clearance to shoot extensively inside the rooms and on the grounds of the infamous Sunset Boulevard hideaway, legendary for its starry scandal sheet. It's the site where John Belushi and Helmut Newton died, where sometime Coppola muse Scarlett Johansson allegedly had sex with Benicio Del Toro in an elevator (an event nodded to in Somewhere), from which Britney Spears was — allegedly! — banned for "smearing her dinner on her face." It is an official landmark, No. 151 on the city's list of Historic-Cultural Monuments. In contemporary pop culture, it's a symbol of Peak L.A. — a concentrated dose of a certain fantasy version of this city's secret life.

Somewhere - Goes Nowhere

With three feature films under her fashionably slim belt, Sofia Coppola tackles a personal and poignant story, revolving around a hotel and a father/daughter relationship. 

Burnt-out, decadent action star Johnny Marco (Stephen Dorff) lives at Hollywood's fabled Chateau Marmont. Catering to upscale hipsters, it's known as the no-tell hotel. Built in 1929, modeled after Chateau Amboise in France's Loire Valley, it's where John Belushi overdosed on cocaine, Benico Del Toro had sex with Scarlett Johansson in an elevator, and Jim Morrison said he used up the "eighth of his nine lives" shimming down a drainpipe from the roof into the window of his room.

As it begins, chronically depressed, perpetually stoned Johnny is sprawled on the bed, listlessly watching identical strippers pole-dance for his amusement. When he falls asleep during their routine, the twins casually gather their equipment and depart. Then, one day, Johnny's 11 year-old daughter Cleo (Elle Fanning) is dumped on his doorstep, as his exasperated ex-wife telephones instructions to drop her off at summer camp. In the interim, they spend time together, and Johnny gradually learns what it means to be accountable for somebody else.

Plotless in even the most basic terms, the minimalist screenplay meanders in an episodic fashion. It's far better than Coppola's "Marie Antoinette" but never approaches the impact of her Oscar-winning "Lost in Translation." Insofar as references to her own father (Francis Ford Coppola), she notes, "It's personal, not autobiographical. My childhood wasn't like that. My dad wasn't like that. (But) I've been around that world enough to think I could write about it with some familiarity."

After playing the so-called fifth Beatle in "Backbeat," an evil vampire kingpin in "Blade, and transsexual Candy Darling in "I Shot Andy Warhol," Stephen Dorff superbly underplays Johnny, while coltish Elle Fanning enchants.

Despite its Golden Lion Award for Best Picture at the Venice Film Festival (where her ex-boyfriend Quentin Tarantino headed the jury), on the Granger Movie Gauge of 1 to 10, "Somewhere" goes nowhere with an atmospheric 5.. It's an oblique, low-key, melancholy rumination on adult responsibility.
