1. OPRAH'S GOT HER OWN

Oprah Winfrey expands her media empire to cable with the Oprah Winfrey Network, or OWN. The network launches noon Saturday, Jan. 1, with a slate of sneak peeks into upcoming shows such as "Miracle Detectives" about a skeptic and believer who investigate possible miracles. Go to oprah.com/own for the schedule and how to find OWN.

2. 'BLACK NATIVITY'

Karamu Theatre's venerable production of "Black Nativity" -- the Nativity story told through dance and verse -- is onstage at 3 p.m. today and 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 29-30. "Black Nativity" was written by Karamu alumnus Langston Hughes. Tickets are $21 to $25. 2355 East 89th St., Cleveland, karamuhouse.org or 216-795-7070.

3. JUSTICE OR MURDER?

If you've seen the 1972 horror film "The Last House on the Left," here's a chance to see the movie it's based on, "The Virgin Spring." This 1960 Swedish drama directed by Ingmar Bergman is set in medieval Sweden and explores how a father responds to his daughter's murder. "The Virgin Spring," part of the Cleveland Museum of Art's Holiday Film Festival, screens at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at the museum, 11150 East Blvd. Tickets $7 to $9, clemusart.com or 216-421-7350.

4. SUPERHEROES AND THE LAW

If you stay up nights worrying about the admissibility of evidence gained through Professor X's mind reading, or superhero privacy rights, we've got just the blog for you. Law and the Multiverse: Superheroes, Supervillains and the Law, lawandthemultiverse.com, is run by two lawyers, James Daily and Ryan Davidson, both 28, and it's gaining buzz wherever comic fandom and the Internet intersect.

5. ANOTHER UNDEAD FRANCHISE

"I'd rather have people pining and wishing there were more 'Vampire Academy' books instead of tossing it into that 'eeew' category," author Richelle Mead says about why her young-adult series is ending with the sixth book, "Last Sacrifice" ($17.99). Will Rose, a vampire-human hybrid, finally confess her love for her mentor, Dimitri?

6. CRUISE INTO 2011

The CruiseMasters, one of the area's top rock-and-soul bands, rings out the old year with a free New Year's Eve party at Julian's, 26116 Lorain Road, North Olmsted. The free buffet and champagne toast are the CruiseMasters' way of saying thanks to its fans. 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., thecruisemasters.net or 440-779-9174.

7. BOOGIE WITH BETTE

It takes dazzling dancers, the Caesar Salad Girls and a really hot rendition of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" for Bette Midler to properly ring in 2011. "Bette Midler: The Showgirl Must Go On," a 70-minute special taped at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, premieres 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, on HBO.

8. MORE ZOMBIES

Ali Larter and Boris Kodjoe help Milla Jovovich in her quest to save survivors from a zombie infection in "Resident Evil: Afterlife." The fourth installment in the popular horror-action franchise arrives on DVD ($28.95) Tuesday, Dec. 29.

9. THOSE 'WICKED' DIVAS

The witches of Broadway's "Wicked," Erin Mackey and Stephanie J. Block, lend their pipes to the Cleveland Pops Orchestra's New Year's Eve concert and dance. The 9 p.m. concert, led by conductor Carl Topilow, will be followed by social dancing starting at 11. Go to clevelandpops.com for tickets, $44 to $104.

10. BIG MAN IN LILLIPUT

If early reviews are right, the best part of Jack Black's movie "Gulliver's Travels" is the animated "Ice Age" short shown with it. "Scrat's Continental Crack-Up" is a teaser for "Ice Age: Continental Drift" coming next year. "Gulliver's Travels" is in theaters.

The 2011 Pro Bowl Roster Selections Have Been Announced

The 2011 Pro Bowl Rosters are set, and for the most part it appears as though the players that deserved to make it, did. The 2011 Pro Bowl will take place the weekend before the Super Bowl at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Some of the notables for the 2011 Pro Bowl Rosters are:

The Indianapolis Colts have both of their defensive ends, Dwight Freeney & Robert Mathis starting for the AFC. The Atlanta Falcons had the most Pro Bowl selections with 7 players heading to Hawaii for the NFC team. The New England Patriots have 6 players joining the AFC squad. Four other teams had 5 selections each. The Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Seattle Seahawks, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will not be sending any players to the Pro Bowl, unless alternates are chosen.

While most of the selections for the Pro Bowl seems to be pretty justified, there were several players that don’t deserve to make it based on this year’s performances. Shaun O’Hara of the NY Giants was selected as a reserve, even though he has only played in 4 games this season.

The teams that make it to the Super Bowl will not be having their players participate in the Pro Bowl, since there is a risk of injury involved. This means that up to 13 of the selected players may not actually participate, and alternates will take their place on the Roster.
